Florida law
Selling coins in Coral Springs: what Florida requires
When you sell
When a walk-in Florida secondhand dealer buys used jewelry, scrap gold or silver, or other secondhand goods from you, state law requires the following: a government-issued photo ID, your right thumbprint, your contact details and physical description, and a signed statement that you own the goods or may sell them. You must be 18 or older.
Walk-in secondhand dealers (s. 538.06(1)): may not sell, alter or otherwise dispose of a precious metal, gemstone, jewelry item, antique or art item for 30 calendar days after acquiring it, or of other secondhand goods for 15 calendar days.
When you buy
Since August 1, 2025, Florida has exempted all sales of gold, silver and platinum bullion regardless of price. Before that, a single transaction was exempt only if it was over $500.
Florida does not tax the sale of coins or currency that are legal tender of the United States, even when they sell above face value or for their metal content. Florida does tax coins that are not legal tender (DOR's rule examples are ancient Roman coins, medieval English coins and Confederate money).
Who licenses dealers
Florida has no license specific to coin dealers (none was found in chs. 212, 538 or 539). A business that sells taxable items, including taxable coins, must register with the Department of Revenue to collect sales tax.
