Coin grading turnaround times: October 2026 snapshot

How long will a coin grading submission take? The answer depends on the tier, the coin and when the company starts counting. This snapshot puts official terms side by side so you can check the schedule before submitting.

By CoinShop Finder · Checked October 13, 2026 · US coin submissions

28 selected service rows from four providers; 20 have numeric durations. These are published estimates or numbered service tiers, not a study of actual completion times. Missing values stay missing.

Published service tiers and timing

Read the scope alongside the duration. A shared name such as “Economy” does not establish equivalent eligibility or service. Value ceilings below are listed limits for the selected tiers, not valuations of your coins. A blank ceiling means it was not captured in this dataset.

PCGS's numeric cells were blank on both the retrieved page and browser check. ANACS's Economy and Modern rows did not state a duration; CAC explicitly gave no Mint Error estimate. Those eight rows remain visible here and blank in the CSV, and are omitted from the chart.

PCGS

Numeric US estimates were blank in both text retrieval and the browser. PCGS describes its estimates as the previous week's averages. Do not read missing values as zero.

Clock: Starts the business day after system entry; package opening and outbound shipping excluded.

The numeric durations, visualized

The chart preserves provider groups and published ranges. It does not award a “fastest grader” title: coin eligibility, clock starts and extra services differ. ANACS's numbered services appear as service tiers, not measured averages.

Twenty numeric grading durations grouped by NGC, ANACS and CAC. Published ranges remain ranges. PCGS and other unavailable durations are omitted; the full accessible data table is above.
Snapshot: October 13, 2026. Solid bars show lower bounds; outlines show upper bounds. Each row links to its source in the downloadable SVG.

A delivered package and a started clock can be different events

Check the event your estimate starts from. Comparing elapsed days since you mailed a package with a provider's business-day estimate can mix two different intervals. Weekends, transit, intake and return dispatch should not silently become “grading time.”

For PCGS, also see the submission guide, which separates mailing time from its business-day estimate. CAC's source does not identify a clock-start event, so ask before relying on a deadline.

Plan around the full submission, not just one number

Use this snapshot to identify the questions you need answered, then check the current official page. A sale deadline needs a plan for the whole journey. No row here promises that your coins will be back by a particular date.

  1. Match the coin to the tier's full rules, including value, date, metal and holder restrictions.
  2. Confirm the current estimate and its clock-start event.
  3. Ask whether attribution, imaging, conservation or another requested service changes the schedule.
  4. If a dealer submits for you, ask about its dispatch schedule and how it communicates status.
  5. Allow separately for the return journey and confirm when the submission will actually be sent back.

NGC lists additional time for several add-ons. PCGS flags added research and holder services. An unmodified base-tier estimate should not be presented as an all-inclusive deadline.

Before paying for a faster tier, use the coin grading cost calculator to compare the expense with your reason for submitting. If you need a valuation report, consult the published appraisal fee comparison; an appraisal and a grading submission answer different questions.

Find a local coin shop and use our dealer checklist before handing over a collection.

Method, sources and limits

We checked the four official pages in a browser on October 13, 2026. This date describes the snapshot, not the publication date of those pages. Selected US coin tiers are transcribed without converting ranges to midpoints or business days to calendar arrival dates. This is not an exhaustive list of companies, tiers or submission rules.

The article, chart and CSV use one dataset. Unknown numeric values are blank in the export. Estimates can change; this page is a dated reference, not a live feed. We have no measured completion-time sample, on-time percentage, historical trend or independently verified performance ranking. Collector discussions informed the question, not the numeric answers.

Found a transcription error? Send the source URL and tier so we can check it.
